Microsoft Are Rolling Out a New Excel Update in the UK Soon
Microsoft is bringing a new feature called Agent Mode to Excel on Windows, following its web rollout. It’s designed to make Excel not just a tool that helps you work, but one that can actually do parts of the work for you.
Agent Mode lets you tell Excel what outcome you want, rather than clicking through every step yourself. Instead of building formulas, charts, or layouts manually, you describe the result and Excel works toward it.
It’s less “help me write this formula” and more “put this together for me.”
The Windows version is more flexible than ever. Agent Mode plugs into Copilot in Excel and can use different AI models depending on the task. Some are better for quick, structured jobs; others handle more detailed work. You don’t need to worry about the technical side - Excel can handle that automatically.
The practical benefit is clear. It’s faster and more reliable for common tasks like creating spreadsheets, fixing formulas, generating charts and even pulling in live data. You still need to sense-check results, but it takes a lot of the repetitive setup work off your plate.
Excel isn’t going anywhere, but how people use it is starting to shift. It’s less about knowing every function and more about knowing what you want to achieve.
This feature hasn’t rolled out widely in the UK just yet, but when it does, it’s set to change how businesses work with Excel.
